Gretchen Stickney
Gretchen Stickney attended Faulkner University graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Math Education in 1996. She later went on to earn her Masters of Arts in Teaching in 2012 from Colorado College.
Gretchen’s teaching career began in rural western New York where she taught 7th and 8th grade math for two years in a 7th-12th grade school. She then took a few years off to stay home with her new little one before returning to the profession of teaching 6th grade math in Colorado Springs. The following year in 2005, she began teaching high school math where she taught for eight years. In the summer of 2013, her husband’s job as a Border Patrol Agent relocated them to Tucson where she also accepted a position teaching math at Cienega High School in Vail. After 16 years of teaching, having taught every grade from 6th through 12th and having taught Algebra 1, 2, & 3, Geometry, AP Statistics, Pre-Calculus, Honors Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus, Gretchen looks forward to teaching BC Calculus next year. Her classes are anything but the solving problems on a page type of math classes. Gretchen’s students enjoy becoming rap artists to learn the quotient rule, singing the quadratic formula to Pop Goes the Weasel, and doing the Hokey Pokey to learn polynomial equations.
When Mrs. Stickney is not busy teaching class, she will likely be found giving her time to give more to her students doing after school tutoring, running AP weekend ACT/SAT and AP testing preparation boot camps, traveling with her students to Greece, serving as a student council advisor, or working with Moody’s Mega Math Challenge math competition team at Cienega. She is also active in her community serving as a member of COVE (Citizens of Vail for Education), working with the Vail Elections Committee, or enjoying her membership with Beta Sigma Phi – founded for the social, cultural, and civic enrichment focusing on funding charitable needs around the globe.
